This Backyard Has That Wow Factor

Secluded Tropical Pool

Pools with strong features can be a bit of a risk. But sometimes, it absolutely works. This project is the perfect example of how a bold pool design can transform a simple backyard into a secluded private oasis. It has that instant ‘wow’ factor. And it’s a little wild, thanks to all that lush landscaping.

You wouldn’t expect this sort of pool in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The pool and area around it feel like you’re in a luxury island resort - not a Melbourne suburban backyard. The brief for this project was to create something indulgent and refreshing. The owners loved the idea of using the space for relaxing and entertaining, so we had to work something out to balance things out between functionality and aesthetics.

It wasn’t as easy as it seemed, but our owners had a good idea of what they wanted. And there was absolutely no way they were going to compromise on their vision of a private, peaceful resort that they could share with guests. So, our experts spent a lot of time with them, helping them hammer out the details and bring their dream to life. Now, they’re extremely happy with the final result.

We started by building a stunning wet-edge pool and setting it close to a beautiful wall with tropical palms growing all around it. This gives it a beautiful endless swimming pool vibe. If you’re standing on the other side of the pool, you’d swear you were in Bali. Because of the placement of the palms and the pool wall, the, space is completely secluded and private.

To make things a little easier to manage and separate some of the areas from each other, we decided to divide up the 6m x 6m project space into different ‘zones’ and work on them one at a time. This made things go much smoother on-site.

On the other side of the pool, we built a stylish barbecue area and a wide deck for entertaining. There’s also some paving that we did that helps bring together the pool and the entertaining area into a single space while still keeping them separated. We also used LED deck and paving lights and ran frameless glass fencing around the pool to give the space that little bit of extra flair.

As for the pool itself, we opted for an internal finish of Iceland glass mosaic tiles. That beautiful blue is enhanced by underwater Spa Electrics LED niche lights built into the sides of the pool. Inside, the 6m x 6m concrete pool has gas and solar heating, and there’s no spa in this one, so the entire pool area is an open endless body of water that instantly makes you feel peaceful.
