Artistic Poolscape At Its Finest
Poseidon Pool
This one’s never going to get old. We can’t stop talking about it. Every time we look at it, it gives us something new to take in, an angle we hadn’t noticed, the way the light hits the tiles that day. It’s always beautiful, and totally worth all the work we put into it.
Now if you know Billy Kavellaris, you know he doesn’t do anything halfway. That’s our favourite part about working with him. So when we say he had a magnificent design brief, you know we’re not kidding. Billy had a vision and we wanted it to take form exactly how he saw it. The vision was crystal clear, but getting there wasn’t always so easy. That said, we loved the challenge. And the transition that once looked impossible, now looks effortlessly seamless. We’re proud to say that this pool isn't just a pool, but a piece of art.
Walking into the backyard, the first thing you see are the wide glass doors, and you can tell something magical is about to happen. The multi-level backyard opens up to a massive entertaining area. The landscaping here is subtle, but does exactly what we want it to. The leafy green bamboo forms a privacy screen against the fence. It almost feels like there’s nobody else in the world, but you and the people you’ve chosen to spend your time with.
Step down a couple of concrete stairs and find yourself at the star of the evening (and maybe every evening). The pool is everything you want it to be and more. The deep end is white while the wading area is a beautiful ocean blue Coulson tile. Take one look at it and it feels like your feet are already in the water. The asymmetric contrast of the pool continues to the pool surrounds as well where we see more space to entertain and lounge. And when you look at the space from a height or at an angle, it is almost arresting how beautiful this pool looks.
And then you look up.
A mural overlooks the pool. It’s Poseidon and Odysseus, displayed on the rear second-story wall in bold colours. They’re of course, the Gods of Sea, and it feels apt that they overlook this oasis. The artwork also gives us a little insight into Billy’s Greek heritage and ties together the place’s personality with his own. It’s personal, it’s beautiful and it’s quite literally, art.
